Michael Farewell FAIA of Farewell Architects has specialized in the design of theater and performance spaces. His work includes the Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, the Westport Country Playhouse addition and renovation in Connecticut, and the Dorothy Young Concert Hall at Drew University. Other performance spaces include new work at Rutgers, FDU, the Pingry School, and the Pennington School and range from black boxes to choral concert spaces.
Michael’s work has frequently involved historical buildings and settings, with inventively designed additions and transformations that respect the historic qualities of the original context while accommodating new uses. 20th century building preservation and renovation has ranged from the New Jersey State Museum to the addition to All Saints’ Church in Princeton.
Michael Farewells work has been awarded with twenty six AIANJ awards, an American Architecture award, an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, and an AIA Education Award. His work has won the Emerald Award for sustainability from NJUSGBC and projects have achieved LEED platinum and Living Building Certification.
